The Home takes Christian boys between eight and sixteen from families that have broken down, or whose parents cannot afford to provide a proper meal or an education. Its aim is that they leave as men of integrity able to take their place in church and society.
Nine boys live at the Home at present. Three have been returned to the care of their parents or guardians during the year, which is what the Home is for.
The 66th anniversary was kept on St Francis’ Day, 4 October 2025, with the Bishop of Colombo and his wife as guests. Seven of the boys were confirmed at St Stephen’s Church, Negombo, on 27 July 2025. Three represented St Stephen’s in the Revd Nelson Mendis Memorial Bible Quiz and were part of the team that won the junior championship. Four took part in the Zonal Sunday School Bible Knowledge competition, and all of them ran in the inter-house school sports and came back with points and prizes.
Since January 2026 the boys have attended Sunday School and the Eucharist at St Philip’s Church, Kurana. Christ Church, Galle Face, ran a Lent retreat at the Home and made a contribution. The Mothers’ Union held its annual Mary Sumner commemoration there. The Christmas celebration was cut back to the children and staff only because of Cyclone Ditwah.
The boys keep the garden. The old coconut trees are yielding less each year and are being replanted, with cinnamon and areca nut going in alongside. The Committee of Management meets monthly and the boys are encouraged to bring their own concerns to it.
