The Care Project
Girls at Sri Sariputhra Vidyalaya in Slave Island were staying away from school because their families could not afford sanitary products. The Board supplies them monthly. It is now in its third year. The principal and teachers report that attendance has improved markedly and that the girls follow lessons without interruption and take part in other school activities.
It is a small project and it is on this page because it is exactly the kind of thing that goes unrecorded.
Gender-based violence
At the request of the Angulana Mothers' Society, the Board ran a session for around forty women covering the difference between sex and gender, how to recognise domestic violence, what legal protections exist, and the link between economic dependence and vulnerability to abuse. Participants asked for it to be extended to the wider community. A bookmark listing support services was distributed.
International Women's Day
Ninety five women from ten Anglican churches across the Southern Province gathered in Galle on 8 March 2025. The service was led jointly by the Board and women from the southern churches, in Sinhala and Tamil. The second half was an empowerment seminar on livelihood and vocational training. Prayers of intercession prepared by the Board in all three languages were sent to every church in the Diocese for use that Sunday.
Women of the Bible
A series on the Board's Facebook page covering seventeen women of the Old and New Testaments: their faith, their struggles, their failures and what they were for.
By women for women
The Board is looking for women who feel called to this ministry. Its campaign on social media sets out what the Board has done since 1945, what it is doing now, and the principle it works by: by women for women. The aim for the coming year is a full team, so that the awareness built this year turns into work on the ground.
If you feel called to this ministry, get in touch. If you see the campaign, share it.
