The Youth Movement’s stated aim is to be a Christ centred movement that builds bridges of love, healing and understanding across all divides, and to send out young people who are bold, inclusive and purposeful. Its theme for the year was Mission Possible: Building Bridges, on Psalm 133.
It has English, Sinhala and Tamil sub-committees, each with its own president, which tells you something about how it is built.
The year
An art competition called Artivism for the Season of Creation. A leadership camp in November. Carolling at retired clergy residences and in hospitals in the week before Christmas, and carol visits round the deaneries through December. Youth Sunday and Flag Week at the end of January. A mental health awareness programme in February called Hey, Let's Talk. A Lenten retreat for the executive committee. Deanery camps through May and June.
At the Diocesan Council in October the executive committee ran a stall and a connect table, and young people were selected to help count the votes.
Beyond Sri Lanka
Two members of the Movement, Darwin Balan and Wanda Christy, were invited onto the core group of the South Asia Christian Youth Network, representing the Church of Ceylon regionally.
